UVSO provides daily services to over 100 local seniors in the following areas:

  • Other personal needs

The program operates between 9am and 3pm, Monday through Friday. We can also accommodate special evening or weekend requests

Senior Center

The main hub of activity, the UVSO Senior Center, is located at 462 Sanford Avenue. It is open from 9am to 2pm, Monday through Friday.  Center activities include bingo, health & wellness and weekly trips.  Drop in anytime to meet Debra Friday, Manager of Senior Services.

Home Friends

UVSO is committed to supporting our seniors’ ability to age in place.  To that end, we offer our Home Friends to help eligible seniors take care of themselves at home.

Home Friends is a service provided by a paid staff person for routine basic upkeep and management of homes, for the purpose of enabling older/disabled persons to maintain themselves in their place of residence by removing housekeeping barriers.

Services include, but are not limited to:

  • Light housekeeping including laundry, changing linens, dusting, mopping and vacuuming.
  • Food preparation including shopping, storing, preparing and serving meals
  • Escort service including accompanying homebound persons to medical appointments, stores and special events at UVSO Senior Center.

All applicants for the Home Friend Program will be screened for eligibility during a home visit.  The need for the service is determined during the eligibility review.  General eligibility is determined by reference to HHS/SSBG guidelines and personal need.  Continuing need for service is determined by a semi-annual home visit

Visiting Nurse

Our Visiting Nurse service is designed to monitor seniors aged 60 and over or disabled persons in their own residences or community-based settings by providing basic nursing services or therapy, thereby avoiding or deterring the need for hospitalization or institutional confinement.

  1. Nursing visits will be provided for each homebound individual receiving Home Friend services and for individuals referred to UVSO by relatives, agencies and friends.
  2. Individuals will receive a complete physical assessment, counseling and referral assistance during each nurse visit. Subsequent to an initial examination, visits are arranged to monitor progress and the effectiveness of recommended treatments. Visits are scheduled semi-annually and more frequently as needed.
