Mask Distribution

The Maroon Project’s COVID-related collaboration with  Faith in Action’s Masks For The People humanitarian campaign, will be disseminating 60,000 personal protective equipment kits through community-based organizations, like UVSO, to ensure kits get widely distributed directly to residents.

One (1) kit will include 5 masks and a bottle of hand sanitizer. UVSO is looking to receive an estimated 600 kits to provide to families and tenants and, possibly, up to 1,500 to serve additional residents throughout the Vailsburg neighborhood.  Be sure to subscribe to be notified of upcoming distribution dates.

Contact tracing

As the City of Newark, State of New Jersey and the country at-large begin to re-open, contact tracing will be a critical component to getting a handle on potential spread and methodically working towards prevention.  Maria Irizarry – formerly of the Newark Health Department, Founding CEO of the St. James Health Federally-Qualified Health Center (FQHC), and founder of the non-profit Healthy Newark. Healthy Newark is working with the City on its contact tracing efforts.

UVSO has connected Healthy Newark to other agencies (i.e. La Casa, Urban League, Ironbound, New Community, etc.) to execute a   collective effort across all wards. A teleconference for all agency family workers was conducted June 5th to initiate the efforts.
